The EU Implementing Regulation No 2019\/989<\/a> has just been published in the OJEC concerning the non-renewal of the approval of the active substance chlorpropham.<\/p>\n

Chlorpropham is used in plant protection products as a germination inhibitor in potatoes.<\/p>\n

On 18 June 2017, EFSA established that chlorpropham and its main metabolite, 3-chloroaniline, exposed the consumer to acute and chronic dietary risks. In addition, the Authority also concluded that there was a need for a more thorough scientific evaluation of the properties of chlorpropham that could disrupt the endocrine system and that the risk assessment for non-target arthropods in open field uses could not be completed.<\/p>\n

Member States must withdraw authorisations for plant protection products containing the active substance ‘chlorpropham’ by 8 January 2020 at the latest.<\/p>\n

The period of grace granted by Member States for plant protection products containing chlorpropham shall expire on 8 October 2020 at the latest.<\/p>\n

At present, chlorpropham has authorisations in France for potatoes, onions and chicory root.<\/p>\n

The Regulation shall enter into force on 8 July 2019.<\/p>\n
