On 21 January 2019, the European Commission published a draft regulation on the establishment of EU MRLs for the active substance Chlorate.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

To date, the EU MRL for chlorates is set at 0.01mg\/kg, the default MRL, on all matrices.<\/p>\n

All authorisations for plant protection products containing chlorate have been withdrawn following Decision 2008\/865\/EC.<\/p>\n

Chlorates can also come from the use of chlorinated disinfectants in food but also from treated drinking water.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For several years, discussions have been ongoing between Member States to set up EU MRLs. In the meantime, several countries have their own national MRLs.<\/p>\n

The consultation of this project is therefore a real step towards the European harmonisation of chlorate regulation.<\/p>\n
