{"id":7277,"date":"2018-10-08T16:16:01","date_gmt":"2018-10-08T14:16:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/?p=7277"},"modified":"2018-10-09T09:01:52","modified_gmt":"2018-10-09T07:01:52","slug":"draft-regulation-on-trans-acids-in-foodstuffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stagingphytocontrol.shdesign.fr\/en\/regulatory-watch\/draft-regulation-on-trans-acids-in-foodstuffs\/","title":{"rendered":"Draft Regulation on Trans Acids in Foodstuffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[hover_box image=&#8221;\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/valeurs_nutritionnelles.jpg&#8221; image_hover=&#8221;\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/actu_publication-rasff-2016_02.jpg&#8221; link=&#8221;&#8221; target=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On 4 October 2018, the Commission published a draft regulation amending Annex III to Regulation (EC) No 1925\/2006 as regards trans fats other than trans fats naturally present in animal fats for the final consumer.<\/p>\n<p>Stakeholders can submit their comments within 4 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>As a reminder, Annex III of Regulation No 1925\/2006 sets out the list of substances whose use in food is subject to a prohibition of restrictions or is under Community control.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On 4 December 2009, EFSA adopted a scientific opinion concluding that trans fatty acid intake should be as low as possible on the basis of a nutritionally adequate diet.<\/p>\n<p>On 3 December 2015, the Commission adopted a report on trans fatty acids in foods and diets of the population of the European Union. Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death in the EU and a high intake of trans fatty acids significantly increases the risk of heart disease, more than any other nutrient.<\/p>\n<p>This report concluded that the establishment of a maximum level for industrial trans fatty acids in foods appears to be the most effective measure for consumer protection.<\/p>\n<p>This draft Regulation provides for the establishment of a maximum trans fatty acid limit of 2g\/100g fat in foods intended for the final consumer (other than trans fatty acids naturally present in animal fats).<\/p>\n<p>The definitions of &#8220;Fat&#8221; and &#8220;Trans fatty acids&#8221; are those defined in Annex I of Regulation (EC) No 1169\/2011, which are as follows:<\/p>\n<p>Fat: total fat, with phospholipids.<\/p>\n<p>Trans fatty acids: fatty acids that have at least one non-conjugated double bond (i.e. interrupted by at least one methylene group) between carbon atoms in a trans configuration.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The draft Regulation provides that foodstuffs which do not comply with the limit set may be placed on the market until 1 April 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You can consult the entire project at the attached link: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/DRAFT-SANTE-10819-2018.pdf\">DRAFT SANTE\/10819\/2018<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[hover_box image=&#8221;\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/valeurs_nutritionnelles.jpg&#8221; image_hover=&#8221;\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/actu_publication-rasff-2016_02.jpg&#8221; link=&#8221;&#8221; target=&#8221;&#8221;] &nbsp; On 4 October 2018, the Commission published a draft&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":4965,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[181],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7277","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-regulatory-watch"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
