Phytocontrol is able to search for and quantify, under COFRAC accreditation, GMOs authorized in the EU: corn, soybeans, rapeseed, rice, cotton, flax, beet, and potatoes.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The laboratory now offers detection and quantification of the three new GMOs recently authorized by the European Commission: MON95275, DP910521, and MON94804.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Phytocontrol also analyzes the GMO DP51291. This GMO has been deemed safe by the EFSA and should therefore soon be authorized in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Understanding GMO regulations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A genetically modified organism (GMO)<\/b> is a living organism whose DNA has been modified using genetic engineering techniques. These modifications are regularly the subject of debate due to their potential effects on health, the environment and certain ethical considerations. The most common concerns relate to biodiversity, food safety, potential allergies, and the development of antibiotic resistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GMO regulations vary from country to country. Some adopt strict rules, including mandatory labeling of products containing GMOs, while others are more flexible or have no specific regulatory framework. Within the European Union, strict regulations aim to guarantee consumers the choice of whether or not to consume GMOs. Products containing GMOs at a detection threshold above 0.9% must be clearly labeled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

European authorizations for GMOs are valid for ten years.<\/b> However, these authorizations are limited to consumption and exclude cultivation. In addition, any product derived from GMOs must comply with labeling and traceability rules. Currently, only one GMO, MON810 corn, has been authorized for cultivation in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
