{"id":29654,"date":"2023-05-12T10:43:46","date_gmt":"2023-05-12T08:43:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.phytocontrol.com\/?p=29654"},"modified":"2023-06-07T10:46:28","modified_gmt":"2023-06-07T08:46:28","slug":"recast-of-ec-regulation-1881-2006-on-contaminants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stagingphytocontrol.shdesign.fr\/en\/regulatory-watch\/recast-of-ec-regulation-1881-2006-on-contaminants\/","title":{"rendered":"Recast of EC regulation 1881\/2006 on contaminants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[hover_box image=&#8221;\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/fruits_legumes_cereales.png&#8221; image_hover=&#8221;\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/actu_publication-rasff-2016_02.jpg&#8221; link=&#8221;&#8221; target=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regulation (EC) No 1881\/2006 and its numerous amendments set maximum levels for the following contaminants in foodstuffs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Mycotoxins: Aflatoxins, Ochratoxin A (OTA), Patulin, Deoxynivalenol (DON), Zearalenone (ZEA), Fumonisins (FUMO), Citrinin, Ergot alkaloids.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plant toxins: Erucic acid, Hydrocyanic acid, Tropanic alkaloids, Pyrrolizidine alkaloids, Opioid alkaloids, THC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Metals and other elements : Lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, inorganic tin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Halogenated persistent organic pollutants: Dioxins and PCBs, Perfluoroalkylated substances (PFAS).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contaminants linked to transformation processes: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), 3-MCPD and glycidol fatty acid esters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other contaminants : Nitrates, Melamine, Perchlorate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>This regulation has undergone major changes in recent years, so the European Commission has decided to repeal it and replace it with EU regulation 2023\/915.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the changes brought about by this recast:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cadmium: extension of the current exemption for malt to all cereals used in the production of beer or distillates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Most of the cadmium remains in these residues, so the cadmium content of beer is very low.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PAH: exclusion of instant\/soluble coffee from the maximum level for food powders of plant origin for the preparation of beverages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>According to the analytical data available, a negligible quantity of PAHs is found in these matrices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Melamine: addition of a maximum level for liquid infant formula.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Codex Alimentarius has adopted a maximum level for liquid infant formula, which the EU has accepted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The rules have been made easier to read: there are fewer footnotes, and a &#8220;note&#8221; column is now included after the maximum levels.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased references in footnote (1) referring to Annex I of Regulation 396\/2005. Only fruit, vegetables and cereals were listed; nuts, oilseeds and spices have been added.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The maximum levels have not been changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This regulation will apply from 25\/05\/2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that your Phytocontrol laboratory offers analysis of these contaminants under COFRAC accreditation.
