On 5 February 2020, the\nPermanent Representatives Committee (COREPER) of the Council confirmed the\nprovisional agreement reached on 18 December 2019 with the European Parliament\non the proposal for the revision of Directive 98\/83\/EC on the quality of water\nintended for human consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The draft updates the water\nquality criteria and introduces a risk assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Requirements for materials\nin contact with water have also been included in the text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New substances are included\nin the control plan, including the addition of endocrine disrupters and\nmedicinal products (beta-oestradiol, nonylphenol, bisphenol A). These\namendments will be adopted one year after the entry into force of the\nDirective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Committee on the\nEnvironment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) is expected to vote on the\ncompromise agreement on 18 February 2020 and the political agreement will be\nsubmitted to the Environment Council at its meeting on 5 March 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The directive will enter\ninto force 20 days after its publication in the OJEU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
