The EU implementing regulation n\u00b02019\/1606<\/a> was published in the OJEU concerning the non-renewal of the active substance “methiocarb”.<\/p>\n\n\n\nMethiocarb is\nused in the EU in plant protection products for application on various crops:\nmaize, vines, tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, cucumbers, gherkins, courgettes,\nonions, leeks, garlic, shallots, apples, pears, stone fruits, strawberries,\nsugar beet, potatoes, watermelons, melons, cabbages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
EFSA\nidentified an unacceptable risk to workers (even taking into account the use of\npersonal protective equipment) and a high risk to birds, mammals and\nearthworms. The Authority could not carry out the consumer risk assessment\nbecause the residue definition for the risk assessment for plant products could\nnot be finalised because the available data did not allow to exclude the\ngenotoxic potential of the metabolite M01.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Member States\nshould withdraw authorisations for plant protection products containing the\nactive substance methiocarb by 3 January 2020 at the latest. The period of\ngrace granted by Member States for plant protection products containing\nmethiocarb shall expire on 3 April 2020 at the latest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In France,\nall products have already been withdrawn, as methiocarb has not been authorised\nas a molluscicide since 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nregulation entered into force on 30 September 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
