RASFF alert concerning PFAS

RASFF alert concerning PFAS

First notifications from the RASFF regarding PFOS in dairy products and beef.

On 23 November, the first European alert (Notification 2023.8121) for PFAS was triggered following the detection of a concentration of 0.53 µg/kg of PFOS in beef during an EU inspection. EU regulation 2023/915 sets a maximum level for PFOS in beef at 0.30 µg/kg.

One week later, on 29 November 2023, a new PFAS alert (Notification 2023.8228) took place, this time classified as a potential risk, concerning the detection of a concentration of 0.046 µg/kg PFOS in semi-skimmed condensed milk. Recommendation (EU) 2022/1431 sets an indicative value for PFOS in milk at 0.020 µg/kg.
